Silver Grullos
About Silver Grullos - This shade is rare, but because of it's popularity, it is becoming more common every year.  Silver grullos should be the color of a aluminum can when they first shed out in the spring.  Normally, they fade in the sunlight to a buff color.   

Some believe silver grullos carry a cream gene.   While we agree that some do, we know that some do not.  Another misconception is that silver grullos are homozygous dun.   Robins Pretty Blu and Grucilla, pictured below, have a sorrel dam meaning they can not be homozygous dun.  Blackburn Lady Rose, also pictured below, is believed to be homozygous dun.  All grullos, not just silver grullo, have dark eyelashes where grays can have gray eyelashes.  Examine the mane and tail.  There is a difference between a "gray" mane/tail and a "frosted" mane/tail.  A gray mane/tail will have a silvery appearance and gray/white hairs throughout the base.  A grullo with a "frosted" mane/tail has white/slightly off white hairs layered over a darker mane/tail.  Although some grays are born grullo, in the AQHA if they modify to a gray color as they age, the papers should be corrected to reflect the gray color.
